Casual conversations about good food, research and projects involving; the state and future of our environment, climate change, sustainability, the role we as individuals play in it and the Kenyan plant-based space, snowballed into a plan! Olive & Basil was born. The sweet spot that is able to spearhead and influence positive change by marrying good plant based food and environmental sustainability, making a mark on climate change.
Olive and Basil is a plant based food distribution service that's focused on creating a community of like minded individuals, by connecting them to real food.
For a new era, re imagining how the power of real food has a positive impact on environmental sustainability, while in the meantime making plants fun! For us being in an industry that contributes to 25% of global greenhouse emissions and being aware of how deeply intertwined climate change is with the food system, we seek to create a community that understands and doesn’t compromise on the power of yuminess that is good food, but also understands that our environment needs us just as much too. We seek to create environmental balance through food. We want to give back to the Earth and be mindful with how we take.
We are doing this by; being extremely waste conscious by using as minimal plastic as possible when it comes to our packaging, working with farmers who practice organic farming practices that are kinder to the soil, enthusiastically taking on more tree planting campaigns, encouraging our community on nurturing a green thumb, by teaching and spreading awareness on having urban home gardens, collaborating with and shining a light on other businesses that are practicing environmental sustainability, and coming up with other amazing future projects that honour our earth as we keep going. We aim to involve all voices in the chain; from farming, production, to customer, to becoming an Earthling, using sustainable business practices. We’re blending great things together to offer versatile plant based food options, sampling tastes from all over the world, while n urturing a vibrant community of Earthlings.
